In a world where kindness sometimes feels scarce, small acts of compassion often carry the greatest weight. Today, my Woman Crush Wednesday (#WCW) is none other than my 14-year-old daughter, whose empathy and strength shone through during an ordinary ride home that turned into an extraordinary moment.
It was a sunny, hot day, and we were driving home when she spotted something that made her pause. Sitting alone under a tree in a nearby shopping center was a young boy, looking out of place and a little lost. My daughter’s instinctive reaction was, “Mom, stop the car!” No hesitation—just compassion, concern, and responsibility. She didn’t ask what I thought or wait for permission; she saw someone in need and was determined to help.
Once we stopped, she got out and went up to him with a calm presence, making sure to give him enough space so he wouldn’t feel intimidated. She asked him, “Where are your parents?” His response was heartbreaking but all too common: “I don’t know.” Without missing a beat, she asked if he could call them. He mentioned he only had his dad’s number, so she encouraged him to make the call, and stood nearby, ready to help but not crowding him. Her empathy was matched only by her careful thoughtfulness.
The call went through, and she offered more gentle guidance: “Move off the street and go stand in front of the Rite Aid,” she suggested. “That way, strangers can’t approach you easily, and if you feel unsafe, you can run into the store for help.” Watching her balance maturity, care, and a natural protectiveness, I was struck by how much wisdom she has at such a young age.
But that wasn’t all. She turned to me, saying, “Mom, let’s wait here until someone comes to pick him up. And if it takes too long, we might need to get him some water.” That’s my daughter: thoughtful, proactive, and deeply kind-hearted.
Moments like this are reminders of the kind of children I am raising—young queens and kings with empathy, awareness, and the courage to stand up for others. Witnessing her in action, I felt a deep pride and gratitude that affirmed my journey as a mother. In a world where people often criticize each other’s parenting, I know that her character speaks volumes. It’s a testament to the love, respect, and compassion we strive to instill at home.
So, on this #WCW, I’m celebrating my daughter. Her kindness may have been a small moment to those passing by, but to me, it was a profound reminder of who she is becoming—and who I am as her mother.
