A Heartfelt Clarification About Mr. Fox

A few days ago, I shared a post about Mr. Fox, the lovely creature who’s been visiting my garden. In that post, I showed a picture of him sleeping peacefully in the bed I created for him. Since then, I’ve received some feedback that has genuinely upset me, and I feel it’s important to address some of the concerns people have raised.

First and foremost, I want to clarify that this isn’t about me. It’s about Mr. Fox. He’s been coming to my garden ever since I moved in, about nine weeks ago, and I’ve noticed that he’s incredibly tame. When I saw him one evening, all wet and looking so sad while sleeping under the trees, it broke my heart. That’s when I got the idea to create a safe, warm space for him to rest. It wasn’t a decision made lightly, but with the hope that he might find a little comfort in a world that can often be very harsh.

It’s important to note that Mr. Fox is not a pet. He is free to come and go as he pleases. I’m not trapping him or keeping him in any way. He’s been visiting regularly, and he even brings his mate sometimes. It’s a sign that he feels safe in my garden, but that doesn’t mean I’m trying to make him part of my household. He’s wild, and I respect that. I’ve made it clear to him that he has the choice to come and go as he wishes.

Some people have suggested that I’m trying to domesticate him, and while I understand where those concerns are coming from, I want to make it clear that I have no intention of taking him in as a pet. I’m in this home for the long haul, so he will always have me and my partner here, offering him a safe space if he ever needs it.

In a world where so many animals struggle to find a safe place, I’m just trying to offer this sweet fox some comfort and solace—nothing more, nothing less. My hope is to provide him with a peaceful place to rest his head and a little nourishment when he needs it. There’s no hidden agenda here; just an attempt to show a small act of kindness to a creature who’s found his way into my life.

So, to those who have left negative comments, I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. I’m not trying to “make” Mr. Fox into a pet, and I certainly don’t think I’m doing anything wrong by offering him a small act of kindness. We can all use a little kindness in our lives, and it’s as simple as that.

Thank you for reading and for understanding.
